Album of the Week: Charlie Puth – Whatever’s Clever!

Charlie’s had a busy time – marriage, a brand new baby, Super Bowl LX anthem performance and a residency at the Blue Note Jazz Club last year. Puth produced his fourth studio album with BloodPop, aiming for “Yacht Rock 2026”. He pulled out all the stops to achieve that, recruiting collaborators like Kenny G, Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins, and achieve it he did. This is a smooth effort combining ’80s reminiscent soft rock, funk and jazz infuences and seems very personal, eschewing calculated pop for sincerity and optimism. He told Apple Music “It’s the first time in my life where the music is lining up perfectly with my life. This is the music that plays in the background of being a dad”.

New Zealand Net Radio plays a song from our irregularly updated #albumoftheweek every hour from 9am to 12pm. Listen in @tunein at http://tun.in/sfAtE or on the web player.
