Featured Album: Elton John & Co – Revamped
New Zealand Net Radio plays a song from our #featuredalbum every hour from 9am to 12pm Monday to Friday. Listen in @tunein at https://tunein.com/radio/New-Zealand-Net-Radio-s305138/
Our #featuredalbum this week is Revamp: Reimagining the Songs of Elton John & Bernie Taupin. Released to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their collaboration. And what a career they have had. It has already yielded a 25 year celebration (Two Rooms from 1993) but this incredible body of music is worth revisiting. Like the earlier effort it is really interesting hearing how contemporary pop artists have interpreted his songs. Watch the trailer for a bit more background from the contributors:
Less well publicised is another album Restoration which features interpretations by country artists. We’ll try and sneak on a few of those numbers this week as well. Listen every morning from 9am for an hourly track from Revamp.
And the track list:
- Bennie and the Jets (Elton John, P!nk and Logic)
- We All Fall In Love Sometimes (Coldplay)
- I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues (Alessia Cara)
- Candle In The Wind (Ed Sheeran)
- Tiny Dancer (Florence and the Machine)
- Someone Saved My Life Tonight (Mumford and Sons)
- Sorry Seems to Be The Hardest Word (Mary J. Blige)
- Don’t Go Breaking My Heart (Q-Tip and Demi Lovato)
- Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters (The Killers)
- Daniel (Sam Smith)
- Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me (Miley Cyrus)
- Your Song (Lady Gaga)
- Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (Queens of the Stone Age)
Just Added: Hayley Kiyoko – Expectations
#justadded Yes not content with our #newmusicfriday additions we’ve just added a great new track from Hayley Kiyoko (@hayleykiyoko) called Curious. It’s off her brand new debut album Expectations. The former Disney star has put together some great pop tunes which can be enjoyed on their own merits. Pitchfork even gave it 6/10!!

Kasey Musgraves – High Horse
Great country pop crossover, this promises to be a huge song.

HIGH HØØPS – Body
Awesome to see a Kiwi artist on New Music Friday once again, this is a great piece of pop.

Dizzy – Pretty Things
Canadian rockers Dizzy have released some great tracks recently. We like this one!

Stan Walker – Thank You
And our second Kiwi artist, Stan Walker returns with another album of great songs.

Kodaline – Follow Your Fire
Another great track from the Dublin rockers.
Just Added: Whole Damn Mess – Anywhere Without You
We’re a few months behind the times but we’ve just come across this great duo/band from Florida in the US (the single was released last December!). This is a great song – we look forward to exploring some other music from Whole Damn Mess’ (@wholedamnmess) debut album The Queen and the Outcast.
Read a great album about them and the album here. A beautiful story!
Buy the album on iTunes here.

Sabrina Carpenter & Jonas Blue – Alien
Sabrina Carpenter is another pop singer with a Disney Channel background, created with British producer Jonas Blue. The song is from a forthcoming album, nice piece of pop.

Halsey ft Big Sean and Stefflon Don – Alone
This is a bit of ‘old’ and new – this song was featured on Halsey’s album from last year hopeless fountain kingdom this remis features Big Sean and UK rapper Stefflon Don. This was a good song already, described by Halsey as “Jay-Z in Great Gatsby vibes”.
Tyron Hapi & Liam Ferrari – I Like The Way
Great production from Tyron Hapi and Liam Ferrari’s vocals charm as usual. Hailing from Australia (but is Hapi a Maori surname?) these artists are really going places – Tyron’s recent track Anyway ft Mimosa went gold.
Leon Bridges – Bet Ain’t Worth The Hand
Leon Bridge’s debut album, 2015’s Coming Home was criticised for being a bit too backward looking (not a problem here! This song off his forthcming album Good Thing showcases his rich voice with great production.
The Decembrists – Once In My Life
From their new album I’ll Be Your Girl this track has the foundation of folk rock the band are known for, but with a synth rev up from producer John Congleton. Keeps things interesting …
Just Added: Sons of Zion – Drift Away
These guys have been around for a few years and have hit our playlist with this nice new cruisy pop single. Hovering near the top of the iTunes New Zealand chart it has the makings of a ‘smash hit’. They’ve toured the world and have accumulated over 12 million streams on Spotify, no mean feat. Their first album was released back in 2009 and a lot of their music has a reggae vibe – this one is more ‘poppy’ and we really like it!
Just Added: Echosmith – Over My Head
This great new single from the trio of siblings (older brother Jamie left in 2016). Echosmith’s (@echosmith) last hit single was back in 2015 (remember Cool Kids) but this one has a good chance of repeating the feat. See what you think! Love the cover photo by the way.
