Another splendid album from Lana Del Rey, assisted by the always able Jack Antonoff. The Los Angeles Times described her as one of the finest songwriters of our times, certainly this album shows a creativity tempered by experience.

Spotlight Artist: Lana Del Rey

Every weekday between 1 and 5pm we play tracks from our #spotlightartist. They’re an artist with a body of work which has stood the test of time. We’ll play the hits – but also some deep cuts. Listen ad-free through New Zealand via @tunein at https://goo.gl/VL6m3NS

From New York, Lana Del Rey achieved her first success with 2011’s single “Video Games”. Her first album Born To Die released in 2012 was a hit around the world and launched a successful career, dubbed the “Queen of Indie Pop”. We’ve enjoyed her fantastic cinematic music over the years, and look forward to checking out a range of popular and deeper cuts through the week.

Tracks of the Year

Whew, we made it through. As mentioned earlier it was devilishly hard choosing these Top 40 tracks of the year. We tried to pick ones that have had longevity and that we think will stick around for years to come. We limited ourselves generally to one track per artist – many of these had more than one deserving song. Here is the playlist – from 40 down to Maroon 5 at No. 1.
